THE SYNERGY consists of experienced entertainers IAN RUSSELL (lead & harmony vocals, keyboards, guitar) and MAIRI NEWBERRY (lead & harmony vocals, drums, percussion).
Both Ian and Mairi have been performing since an early age and have many years of experience plus a massive repertoire of music to choose from. With literally several thousand live performances between them, they are able to read any audience and deliver the style of music that is required to suit, from 60's to modern day pop and also incorporate Scottish ceilidh music.
They pride themselves on the quality of their sound quality (Bose PA system) and their instrumentation (Mairi is sponsored by top American 'Pork Pie Drum & Percussion' company - only one of two drummers in the UK to receive this accolade and only one of two female drummers in the world to have this) and Ian uses top of the range Yamaha, Fender, and Hammond instruments.
Mairi started playing drums at tender age of eight. She has played in wedding bands since age of twelve including The Alex Sutherland Band, Mabel Meldrums, Sonido Latino and the Lemon Tarts to name but a few. Mairi has also played in many orchestras and theatre productions as well as TV work with Debbie McGee and Carol Smillie. She has also played in the Royal Albert Hall.
Ian turned full time professional at the age of 20 having began his trade playing in lounges and clubs before progressing to holiday centres in the UK, the Middle East, and in Spain and the Canary Islands. By the age of 28 he was supporting top acts as an entertainer in his own right and also acted as Musical Director and keyboard player for no less than 17 UK hit recording artists.
But ultimately, the biggest selling point of all is not just the quality of the show and the professionalism which comes with the experience Ian and Mairi have; it's the fact that they love what they do, both have a great sense of humour which clearly comes across on and off stage, and make it part of their job to interact with each and every person in the audience!
